“You want a reggae fan for your review ? Here is a reggae fan, a real one !!!

OK, first of all,the song starts with instruments that DON’T exist in reggae, I mean: strings playing beautiful chords like dat, this piano chords…it starts like a BEATLES song !
And yes, my first feeling was right: it’s definitly not reggae! But that doesn’t mean it is a bad song at all ! It’s a kind of variety music…

The structure of the song is cool. It’s not boring, but it lacks vocals, but OK I’m here to rate the instrumental part. It’s a slow song, and it may sound repeative, as there is no lyrics. But it’s the same thing as for a reggae track: without lyrics, it’s just the same thing all along the tune, which is called a riddim. But here, there are good variations.

Samples are good, excepted for the piano that sometimes sounds too much synthetic in my opinion. Drum samples are nice (nice toms), and the beat is cool for an “reggae sounding” track (like Bernard Lavillier if you know him). But it only imitates the structure of reggae: it’s not the sample and the type of playing you have in a real reggae track, the snare in particular is too heavy…yeah it’s very european sounding once again).

I think the bass lacks some power, something more incisive, more powerfull, as bass is a fundamental piece in reggae music. It must spread the groove! The sample is good, but it’s not “bouncing” enough (I know what I mean, but I don’t know if you know what I mean :) )

I really like the first part, just following the piano and string intro. It’s excellent, with nice organ. Arrangement is cool here. I like it, all the more that I’m bad at making stuff like that. I can even heards chords singing “no, woman no cry” at 00:42 !

I rate this track as if it was an instru made to receive vocals, so I don’t take in account the lack of lyrics. It’s very good if you imagine vocals in it. Lucky you, do you know that I really hate karaoke ? But not with this song!

Jah bless! Bun di Babylon System! Heartical sound fi dem ghetto youths…oups sorry, it’s not reggae!

“Oh, I love reggae! But this one has very heavy samples. You’re a metal person and leave your track on your tracks. :) Drums are too loud and heavy, I think it doesn’t make any favour to the theme. However, rytthm is well done and synths helps a lot. I think the idea is good, but you’d better improve your skills as a variated styles composer, ’cause it seems to be necessary. Maybe it is also repetitive and bass line doesn’t make reggae figures, it only imitates some style, but there’s too much of rock here. Keep on rocking and try again with better reggae.”
